For the record, the second team has got the better
of the first team in darts, pool, and squash with wooden rackets,
so could they do so again in the latest Friday Night excuse for
a beer and a curry?? The following report is prepared by the architects
of the event - Rob B and Pete.
With the expectation of no softball due to the predicted rain (plan
B being to go to straight to the pub!), everyone was delighted to
see sunshine and crates of beer!
Due to a few late comers, the match started off as 7 against 4,
although the the 4 people of the second team were high in confidence
after their previous 3 victories in challenge matches.
In the end it was a fair contest (7 - a - side) which went "to
the wire". There were no fights or confrontations despite the
appearance of the local constabulary, and Sohail duly took care
of the 2 joggers who tried to interrupt the game. Sufficient amounts
of alcohol were consumed before and during the game, thanks to those
who purchased the crates - including Rob W with his bottle of wine
!!
Injuries
were high. Laurie was welcomed back by being hit by the ball from
his bowling, nearly breaking his foot. He later twisted his knee
while trying to hit a home run and was caught behind by Richard,
cruel but a great catch all the same.
Colin was bowling well whenRob B stepped up and hit the ball straight
back into his belly; luckily Colin has a bit of padding but the
bruise was a monster - see picture -->. There was no sympathy
from anyone, - whilst Colin was doubled up with pain everyone else
seemed to be doubled up with laughter !!!
I think hats off to James and Rob B who seemed to be the biggest
hitters from each team.
With 4 innings each, it was finally came down to the first team
needing 18 runs off the last innings AND believe it or not, they
managed to achieve this and take the Hart Team Challenge title.
Prompt celebrations resulted in a pile up, all too quick for the
cameraman to take pictures.
Thanks go out to Sohail who booked the field (tell that to the
runners) and also to Rob B for supplying the bat/ball.
As expected there was full attendance in the pub and
curry house (see picture) to celebrate the first team victory (including
Jason who also came down to join in).
